Everything Edinburgh

We would recommend anyone travelling in Scotland to buy Peter Irvine’s fabulous guide – “Scotland the Best” – it’s the one the Scots use. The guide provides thousands of recommendations covering a multitude of topics including: the best beaches; the best ice-cream; the best hill walks; the best bakers; the best spooky places; the best seafood; the best places for kids; the best ceildhs; the best restaurants, the best bars and so on.

In our opinion, it gets it right, every time.

There is also a drawer full of leaflets and maps and some guide books in the cottage for anyone looking for inspiration when they get here!

Alongside are some links to the best resources for all things Edinburgh. Below, we’ve chosen some of our favourite places that we would wholeheartedly recommend.

For sightseeing, Edinburgh Castle and The Royal Yacht Brittania top our list.

There are many walks nearby, The Water of Leith and Arthur’s Seat both guarantee great views of the city.

In the City Centre, George Street and Princes Street have the best shopping. Closer to Claremont Cottage, Ocean Terminal offers a shopping mall experience complete with restaurants and cinema.

For the best beer in the city centre, try The Guildford Arms or the The Abbotsford on Rose Street.

For a light lunch, The Shore in nearby Leith, does delicious seafood, whilst the city centre boasts one of the highest number of restaurants per square mile in Europe.
